variety of business subscription databases and websites
which are a big help for the small business person that
are free, with your library card. Discover the powerful
Reference USA, and drill down to local statistics to
create mailing/prospecting lists and other data sets.
Take a look at Gale’s Onefile or the Boston Public
Library’s Business Source Premier to access magazine
articles from hundreds of business journals to profile
a company or learn more about your own business type
– it can put you in touch with people pursuing
similar interests. Lack an online subscription to the
Boston Globe or New York Times from 2000 to the present?
It’s yours for free via the library. Make knowledgeable
decisions by tapping into vetted websites via the Boston
Public Library web page. We’ll update you on local/regional
library services: wireless at the library, downloadable
books for free; quality market research studies and
business journal alerts. Too busy to gather information?
Partner with a librarian who can offer personalized
services. We sift through the data and block out the
noise, for free.
Nancy Gentile was head of adult services
at Robbins Library for over 20 years and now is an adult
services librarian with responsibility for the circulating
business collection and the Employment and Education
section of the library. Nancy collaborated with the
Arlington Chamber of Commerce on Business Forward 2005
and created a workshop on online business resources
available through libraries. Prior to her many years
at Robbins Library, she worked as a librarian at Millipore
in Bedford, MA.
Bob James has been an adult services
librarian at Robbins Library for over 15 years where
he had responsibility for book selection for the circulating
business collection and the Employment and Education
section of the library. An instructor in the online
business resources workshop last year, Bob returns as
a workshop instructor for Business Forward 2006.
Jennifer De Remer has been head of
adult services since 2005 and formerly was an adult
services librarian at Robbins Library for over 20 years.
Jennifer selects non-circulating resources and databases
for the business reference collection. As adult services
librarian she was primarily responsible for the Local
History Room and its collections. She previously worked
as a reference librarian in the Research Library of
the Boston Public Library. Jennifer taught the online
business resources workshop for Business Forward 2005.
